Concerns About Fit

Often what brings future Mothers of the Bride to me are concerns that clothes don’t fit them, or perhaps they just don’t like what they have seen so far in the shops. Often mothers of the bride have seen an image of a garment or parts of a garment that they like, but can’t find anything similar. I cater for all tastes, shapes and sizes so do get in touch for a no obligation chat if you’d like to discuss having a bespoke outfit made.

Simple or Flamboyant

Something I think it’s important to note, is that your outfit can be very simple – just a shift dress for example, if that’s what you would like. Alternatively you can wear something flamboyant! I’m flexible with your ideas and will help you decide what will work best for you and in what fabric.

The Process

The process involved in creating custom outfits for Mother of the Bride is the same as for my bespoke wedding dresses. We meet to discuss ideas and once a design is confirmed, I create paper patterns and toiles for your initial fittings. You can read more about this here.

Once you are happy with your calico toiles (mock-ups made from cotton calico or similar fabric) I cut out your chosen fabric and create your outfit. More on this stage here.

Fabrics

Fabric choices can sometimes be a challenge for custom made outfits for mothers of the bride, the choices available can sometimes feel overwhelming. I’ve written about how I approach this in a previous post here. I am also happy to see beautiful fabrics you may already own but have not had an opportunity to use yet – sometimes these can be incorporated into your outfit.
